Meet Strut. I painted this rooster with the kind of confidence only a rooster can have. He’s standing tall, chest out, feathers on display, looking like he fully expects everyone to notice when he walks into the room.
I had a lot of fun with his feathers, filling them with stripes, dots, grids, and little geometric patterns in deep teal, turquoise, purple, and green. I wanted him to feel colorful and a little unexpected without losing that unmistakable rooster shape. The orange eye and beak were the finishing touches—just enough brightness to bring your attention right back to that very serious face.
Strut felt like the obvious name for him. There’s just something about the way he carries himself. He’s proud, slightly ridiculous, and completely comfortable being the center of attention. I think he’d be especially fun in a kitchen or breakfast nook, but he’d be just as at home mixed into a colorful, eclectic gallery wall.
I print every piece in my studio so I can make sure all those little patterns, textures, and rich colors come through the way they do in my original painting.
