I wanted Squirrel Watch to capture that funny, intense focus dog people know so well—the neighborhood may look perfectly peaceful to us, but clearly there is important work happening overhead.
I built his face with loose, expressive marks rather than trying to smooth out every detail, layering deep blues and blacks with unexpected touches of brighter color throughout his fur. Against the soft, colorful background, those dark features and bright eyes become the focus. The result feels playful and a little dramatic, which seems appropriate for a dog taking squirrel surveillance this seriously.
